Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Calltech (talk) 13:32, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Aftek

[edit]

You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Aftek, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of Aftek and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Calltech (talk) 13:32, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

the reason for the deletion attempt

[edit]

Kavita,

You must have noticed that there is an attempt to delete the Aftek page you have created. It is because, the way in which it was written created suspicion that it is a promotional attempt for the company. To avoid giving that impression to the wikipedia community,

  • make sure the article is sourced by neutral sources and written in a neutral manner. For example, while writing about Aftek, make sure the sources added are news reports in financial papers like economic times or live mint (not the company website/press releases).
  • while adding external links, just a link to the companies official website is enough, links to products and services should not be added.
  • when you see a tag placed at the top of the article, do not remove it without addressing the issues or explain in the edit summary why you feel the removal of the tag is appropriate.

I have now shortened the article and sourced it from newspaper reports. In the future when you expand it (adding services, products etc, follow the same way - sourcing from newspapers).

Let me know if you have any doubts.--Sodabottle (talk) 07:30, 18 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sodabottle and Caltech, Thanks for your help and inputs.

  • Well, I am new to Wiki and am trying to create this page for Aftek and it is not an advertising attempt. It is a 22 year listed company and recruits huge number of engineers yearly and has a considerable turnover.
  • However it may have seemed so due to the links, since I was not aware that linking to poducts in a website are considered spam.
  • I would like to know what is considered a 'notable organization/product'.
  • Surely, I would be able to cite links from external sources to the article. I would do that.
  • How do I have the speedy deletion tag removed? Please help. :)
  • I want to add more to the company history (it was selected amongst the top 500 companies by RedHerring and reflects on their website too.

Kavita,

To answer your questions

  • WP:LISTED and WP:CORP are the relevant wikipedia guidelines that deal with notability of an organisation/company. In my view Aftek meets them easily. (hence my keep vote in the AfD discussion)
  • For expanding the article - lets wait and see how the AfD ends. I believe it will end in not deleting the article. But it usually takes 7 days (or more) for an AfD to end. After than if you want to edit the article, you will have to read and follow WP:COI. I suggest we use the article's discussion page for drafting the expansion. I will help you to write a balanced article. But be warned, all sorts of information will be included in the article - not just positive information. The Ketan Parekh incident would most likely be included in the company history. (if i am involved i am definitely including that)
  • For citing external sources, you will have to use citation templates like those used now in the article (cite web or cite news). WP:CITE is the relevant guideline about what can be cited and how it can be cited (correct formatting is a little difficult initially but becomes easier once you get a hang of it).

Sodabottle: I will put the new references with content on the article's discussion page for inputs/suggestions. Thanks for the help. Once the matter okays and the AfD is over, I would add the new content to the article. Kavitachate12 (talk) 07:54, 21 April 2010 (UTC) Also the Ketan Parekh content would have to be added to make the content more neutral. Maybe yesterday's Goldman Sachs content too Kavitachate12 (talk) 08:00, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WP:COI Aftek

[edit]

Kavitachate12, it appears you have a conflict of interest, since you are a representative of Aftek Ltd (as listed on your company website). WP content is based upon neutral information and your edits in the past show a clear bias toward the company you work for. It is not recommended that you edit this article because of this conflict. Regarding your links, you are spamming WP by continually adding external links to your company website on other WP articles, which again points to your conflict of interest and violates WP:EL guidelines. Please read these two guidlines - WP:COI and WP:EL. Calltech (talk) 13:34, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Aftek

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Aftek requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
