Disambiguation

[edit]

It is always a good idea to read the Wikipedia:Manual of Style on a topic before attempting your first edit of that type. In the case of disambiguation, it is not necessary to create a disambiguation page for every ambiguity. If there are only two possible articles, and one topic is primary, such as is the case with Pteryx‎, normally no disambiguation page is created, instead a disambiguation (dab) hatnote is added at the top of the article that has been written about the primary topic. The hatnote links to the secondary meaning article and saves a click, as well as saving a disambiguation page. See Wikipedia:Disambiguation for greater detail. While I have no personal quibble with disambiguation pages that have only two articles, many editors have expressed a concern where there is not at least three possibilities. --Bejnar (talk) 22:34, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
