Adding links to other wikipedia pages[edit]

Hi, Kcasper11!

When you requested feedback for this new article, you asked for information on "how to highlight other terms and link them to other Wikipedia pages". It's very easy.

First, click the "edit" box at the top of the page. Then, in the edit box, simply use the cursor to highlight the word or phase that you want to link to a wikipedia page. Then click on the icon for "links" in the top bar of the edit box (fifth from the left). You'll get a dialogue box that either says "page exists" or "page does not exist", with the options of either cancelling or inserting the link.

If you click on "insert link", it will insert the code for the linked page. However, before you save that page, it's a good idea to click on "preview" and then click on the new link in your article, to make sure it takes you to the page you wanted to link to.

For instance, just playing around, I tried linking to Washington State Digital Archives - and got a link to what I think is the correct topic. However, I also tried linking to "Ralph Munroe" in the first line of your article. There is an article about someone named Ralph Munroe, but the fellow in the article was a yacht designer in Florida in the early part of the 20th century - probably not the Ralph Munroe you were meaning.

Also, sometimes if dialogue box says a page exists, it may be a very general page. For instance, I tried out "Secretary of State" from the first line of your article - and got a very generic listing. The Secretary of State page is pretty generic and covers the office of Secretary of State in a variety of countries, rather than being limited to Washington State. However, if you hunt about you'll find a wiki page for the Washington Secretary of State. Once you know the name of the page, on the linking dialogue box you paste in the name of the page (Note: the actual title of the page, not the url) you want to link to, and it should say "page exists." Just click "insert link" and you're done. And, the name of the linked reference in your article doesn't have to line up exactly with the name of the linked article, as the link I've put here shows. I've used the term "Washington Secretary of State" but the name of the wikipage is "Secretary of State of Washington" - you can name the link in your article in a way that fits your own sentence structure.

Hope this helps! welcome to wikipedia and your first article!
