Thanks for registering; this way I can explain. All of the snake articles follow the taxonomy for snakes available through the ITIS website. The references in the article link to the relevant page there. ITIS, although still a work in progress, was selected because it provides the most authoritative taxonomy currently available for snakes. The reason for their choice was this publication: Kluge (1991). If you don't agree, that's okay -- I don't always agree with ITIS either. However, following a good 3rd party taxonomy is far better than just making it up yourself as you go along (with plenty of arguing as a result). --Jwinius (talk) 03:09, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
