A sockpuppet, to answer your question, is a user name which is actually owned by someone who owns another username. (If that makes sense). Basically, if you get one user name, and then create a second, the second is your sockpuppet. There are many problems that arise from people using sockpuppets, see WP:SOCK for more info.
