Hatnote on Jimmy Wales

[edit]

Hi there. I noticed you took down the hatnote disambiguating Jimmy Wales (mainspace) from User:Jimbo Wales. Normally I'd just invoke WP:BRD, re-insert it, and bring it up at the talk page, but since this was a rather unusual use of a hatnote, I can see your point in removing it. I guess my general question would be if there's precedent (insofar as precedent exists on Wikipedia) as to this sort of use? WP:HAT's fairly vague about appropriate and inappropriate uses, and says essentially nothing when it comes to cross-namespace disambiguation. So, anyways, I have no problem with the edit you made, and certainly admire your boldness, but I was wondering if I could pick your brain as to your reasoning. Thanks. — Francophonie&Androphilie(Je vous invite à me parler) 00:23, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Primarily because no other Wikipedian with an article has such a hatnote. There is also WP:SELF and WP:RELATED. And personally, I think cross-namespace links should be treated just like external links, except in maintenance templates. Keφr 06:39, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. I think WP:SELF makes a pretty good case for your removal. What would be your opinion of putting it under a "See also" section, à la Arbitration Committee (English Wikipedia)#See also or Essjay controversy#See also? — Francophonie&Androphilie(Je vous invite à me parler) 06:49, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hand-coding

[edit]

Hey all :).

I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).

You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo here. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at okeyes@wikimedia.org and I'll set you up with an account :).

If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at 23:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office connect. Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:05, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
