The problem was with the picture. Please read carefully wikipedia:Copyrights and wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Wikipedia is very serious with copyrights. The only images are allowed to download are these which are free, public domain, under GFDL or GFDL-compatible licence and in some other very specific cases. When uploading an image you must provide its source. You must also provide a pointer to the reason you selected a particular copyright tag (author's permission to release under wikipedia conditions, source webpage copyright notice, etc.). Clearly you cannot just say that the image is free; you must prove this, or wikipedia is in a legal trouble.

The second problem with the image was that it was a map of Belarus with Brest not highlighted in any way, which is a sloppy approach.

As for links removed by Alex256, wikipedia is not art gallery, not link farm or web directory. It is a self-contained encyclopedia. The major problem with links to external websites is that we have no control over their content and even over their existence. there is nothing more frustrating than click thru a dozen of links only to get "Error 404. Page not found". Therefore external links are discouraged, with the exception of "official" websites on the topic in question and reputable pages with encyclopedic information. People can use google and easily find tens of thousands of pictures of Brest: http://images.google.com/images?q=brest&hl=en&btnG=Search+Images. mikka (t) 21:06, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
