User talk:Leggia
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for creating the above article, and I hope you will go on to contribute further here. However: you will see that I've substantially shortened the article you created; this entry is to help you understand why I did that:
I understand that some of the edits I made to this article might seem severe and a bit slash and burn, but I did have my reasons: for example, there's no point in writing about "the Island" unless you explain what that actually is, as was indeed the case for the hockey rink (which is why that could stay). The material about individual personalities was removed as none of them seemed notable enough to be mentioned in an encyclopedia article. Finally, the text about "Ian" is more suited to a personal website than an encylopedia. Loganberry (Talk) 04:38, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply to this on my talk page. However, I feel that you're missing the point. The fact that something is true is not enough for it to be suitable for Wikipedia. Official policy states that Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. Note, for example, the section there on "travel guides". The same applies to people: if someone is important in their community (rather than just being a friend or something) then there should be verifiable references (again, this is Wikipedia policy) to them. I've live in Bewdley most of my life; that doesn't mean it would be right for me to write about individual shops unless they were in themselves notable to readers. A tag has been placed on Jesse Wilks, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable (see the guidelines for notability here). If you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please write {{hangon}}
on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.
Please read the criteria for speedy deletion (specifically, articles #7) and our general biography criteria. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Slp1 15:55, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
Welcome to Wikipedia! We could really use your help to create new content, but your recent additions (such as Ekaj Maharj) are considered nonsense. Please refrain from creating nonsense articles. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Carre 16:08, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
