Hi Lily! I think your draft looks really good! Food waste is a super interesting topic and it's neat that you've given it pre-modern context in hunter-gatherer societies as we tend to think of food waste as a purely today issue. Your sources also seem well-rounded and you've presented your focus points clearly and precisely. I'm not sure if it'll be entirely helpful to you, there's a documentary called Theater of Life (on Netflix!) about Massimo Bottura's soup kitchen that uses food waste exclusively to create meals for the patrons-- it's moreso about the people who go to the soup kitchen, which could work as a modern example of food waste in relation to social hierarchy. First of all, it looks like you've done some great, in-depth research so far. I like that you've incorporated a bunch of the readings we've done in class into your research as well. You might want to look into finding a few more, but so far, so good!

The "Surplus" section is quite interesting. We tend to think of food waste as a contemporary issue, but here, you clarify that it's been going on for almost all of human existence. Nice work!

Definitely continue to elaborate upon how food waste has evolved over time. And while it's certainly important to talk about food waste in history, I definitely think you should have a focus on the present. Right now, food waste is explosive -- why? What caused it to become such a pressing problem? What trends in society encouraged people to be more wasteful? I would recommend gearing the rest of your article toward this direction.
