Re: Idaho towns and cities
[edit]Two things first:
- I don't entirely understand your meaning, so please forgive me if I don't address what you meant by your words.
- I've reverted vandalism to your userpage that was done yesterday.
What do you mean about the cities/towns/villages thing? Are you saying that we should use the colloquial term of "town" for communities such as Mullan, or do I misunderstand you? The standard always used at Wikipedia for US communities is to use its actual municipal status: we use the official term for the type municipality (i.e. "city" in Idaho), and (outside of New York and New England, where the official terms are different) we use "unincorporated community" for a settlement that isn't incorporated. Title 50 of the Idaho Code never makes reference to any municipalities other than "city", except for §50-202, which relates to a change from previous laws.
As far as the sourcing — because sources are needed for verifiability, if you don't know what your source is (i.e. the old newspaper used as insulation), how can you know whether it's reliable or not? How is anyone else supposed to be able to consult that source? We always need to provide proper citations for information, as otherwise it's not dependable: the more unreferenced information in Wikipedia, the less reason that your children will have to use it for information.
