Obscene/offensive content Various websites on the internet contain material that some deem offensive, distasteful or explicit, which may often be not of the user's liking. Such websites may include internet, shock sites, hate speech or otherwise inflammatory content. Such content may manifest in many ways, such as pop-up ads and unsuspecting links.[9] Indeed, one of the most common ways of getting people's attention is by using explicit ad commercials. For example, Carls Jr's advertisements use sexuality (women's body) to sell their product, a product that has nothing to do with how the way the ad commercial is. To some, this type of advertisement can be very uncomfortable, to others this greats pleasure. It all really depends on personal opinion. Anyone can say whatever they want behind the screen and it can be completely anonymous. Karen Sternheimer, author of Connecting Social Problems and Pop Culture: Why Media is Not the Answer, she mentioned that if we use the media to build upon, we can have control over it rather than the information provided to us have control over the way we shape things. In other words, having a constructivist rather than a protectionist mind, can help us learn from the things in the media rather than trying to avoid it all the time. Therefore, if we can deconstruct the messages and find the real meaning behind these advertisements we can protect ourselves from offensive/persuaded content.
