I have been Blocked![edit]

Yes, I happen to be a real person. Unfortunately, I was blocked because my name is too close to that of another user. Is this a legitmate reason for blocking? It seems kind of silly. I mean honestly, there are only 26 characters in the alphabet plus 10 digits if one ignores upper ASCII. As Wikipedia grows in size, ultimately names will begin to resemble some name in use. M00

  • I think sock puppetry is a problem as well. (deletable? maybe not...) I hope you decide to contribute to Wikipedia on a regular basis. (Signed: J.Smith) 17:06, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • I would like to, but the account is still blocked. I hope the admin that did the banning would say something about it. This is the only page on Wikipedia I can currently edit. M00
      • If it's a temp-ban then it will expire. If it's perm then you should log-out and ask on the user page of the admin. Ask nicely or it will be removed no doubt:) (Signed: J.Smith) 21:12, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
        • Thanks for the advice, but unfortunately my banning has not given me access to the user page of the admin. My only option would be creating a sock-puppet, which seems counter productive since banned members creating sock puppets is probably also a bannable offense! M00
        • Actually, there is a template you can use to request an un-blocking. I forget what it is... You can talk to the admin and make sure it's OK to make a new account... it sounds like the problem isn't with you and with the account name. (since there is an admin with the name MO0 or something like that)(Signed: J.Smith) 08:09, 25 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah! I just found this under Category:Imposters of Mo0, and since you're asking to be unblocked, I'll do it. Usually a block like this is done pre-emptively, especially since the kind of work I do around here invites people to make imitative usernames that proceed to vandalize either my user page or just plain old vandalize.
