Welcome!

Hello, MAD1970, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there. Again, welcome!  >Radiant< 10:14, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

However, Wikipedia is not the place to promote yourself, your business or your website. We would appreciate your contributions to articles, but simply adding a link to what I assume is your site is not particularly helpful. Please see WP:EL for information about external links, obviously an encyclopedia does not link to every webpage with related content, that's what Google is for. >Radiant< 10:14, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Sorry, I only just noticed these. It was not my intention to spam. I'm a huge fan of all the Battlestar Galactica TV series and I'm in contact with 150+ cast/crew of the original series and 100+ cast/crew of the new series (something I've been working on for the last 2 decades). Next to that I've built the official sites of many of the actors. I regularly check many of the actors here as well and update their pages/biographies. On our website we publish many interviews with cast/crew (3-6 every month) and also make profile pages not unlike on Wikipedia. I even link their Wikipedia pages there on our website. When we do an interview I place links to them on Wikipedia. I don't see this as spamming. Sure I don't deny it might promote my website (which already has 7,000 unique visitors every month so it's not like I'm some minor fansite, even the creators of both Galactica series gave me the two thumbs up on my site and are promoting it on all the official studio sites), but it's also interesting extra information for the people visiting those actor pages (since for most actors it's often the ONLY interview around, we're not talking about actors with a Robert de Niro status here). Besides: I do update the same actor pages with new info (and often turned a lot of stubs into real pages or created new ones). I'm not complaining about those since these links haven't been removed (yet). But when I add my site to the major Battlestar Galactica pages it is seen as spam. True, I don't add information there, just my links. The reason why I don't add information there is that all the general information is already there. I could add more information, but this would be too specific. That's why I add most my stuff to Battlestar Wiki. I'm good friends with the webmaster of that and he supports my site and work, since it completes his site again. We use the information obtained in my interviews to update his site. So I hope this helps to explain my actions and you can forgive my ignorance in not seeing these warnings earlier. I did see my site was posted among the links by someone already, but was later removed. I merely tried to add it again. Best regards, Marcel Damen --MAD1970 10:48, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Note that I didn't remove the links to interviews you added as they are useful, however there are tons of fansites about BSG, we can't keep a long list of them, thats what the open directory is for. thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 11:49, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Someone else had add my link (I noticed this since I was getting traffic from this Wiki link) and this was removed. I merely tried to add it again (I could start a discussion because I think we're better than most on there now, seen just from the point of a fan and that's why I added it in stead of taking 4-5 others off, but you wouldn't believe me anyway. :)). I did read up on open directory based on the stuff you send and did add it there as well. Thanks for your help. Sorry for the trouble. --MAD1970 14:15, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

image deletion

[edit]

Helllo. The image was deleted under the criterion I3 for speedy deletion which reads:

Improper license. Images licensed as "for non-commercial use only", "non-derivative use" or "used with permission" that were uploaded on or after May 19, 2005, except where they have been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [1] This includes images licensed under a "Non-commercial Creative Commons License".[2] Such images uploaded before May 19, 2005 may also be speedily deleted if they are not used in any articles.

I had already uploaded it again with a new tag (but it was still deleted). Terry Carter asked me to make this page, provided me with the image which comes from his own website (which I also webmaster). How can I correctly use this image, because I get a wanrning now when I try to upload it. Thanks, Marcel --MAD1970 12:57, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Terry-carter.jpg

[edit]

The image Image:Terry-carter.jpg is there so it hasn't been re-deleted. However, it is likely to face deletion again because it is likely that a free alternative will be available at some point. Now, if you are the webmaster of the site, you probably could arrange for this particular picture (whose rights I'm guessing are Mr Carter's) to be released under the GFDL. The image would have to be identified as such on the website and this would ensure that the Wikipedia article has a decent picture. Cheers, Pascal.Tesson 02:04, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, but now it has been deleted by your colleague AGAIN. Once again: Terry Carter HIMSELF asked me to add this image this his page. The image was made by his son for crying out loud and NO ONE has any problem of adding this picture EXCEPT for Wikipedia. Now I have to get some sort of license and I need to put this on the Terry Carter website next to the image so you can all sleep well at night because then I've made this free alternative the whole world now can use. Come on, you really can't tell me that this is true for all of the images on Wikipedia. People add pictures here every day, scanned from books or taken from website CLAIMING to have every right to copy it here or there's no free alternative when they don't actually have the right either. Wat's the different. Why is a portrait image so different that you claim that a free alternative will one day be available. I'm adding this one image and probably am checking the wrong box on what license I assume this picture should have and it has now been removed 3 times already. I really don't get why this one image is giving me so much trouble or why I should be the one to make this one particular image free for the whole world. Terry Carter gave me the right to use this image here and not to publish it worldwide. What do you need? A written contract that I have this right? I'm sorry, but this is REALLY frustrating. --MAD1970 14:26, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
