February 2023[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Forest Finns. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. TylerBurden (talk) 16:39, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@TylerBurden I recommend looking at the Wikipedia pages of the countries where this minorty lives, and see how they are referred to. Additionally you should also that a look at the judicial status of the Forest Finns in Norway. Ask if you need guidence. It's better than threatening to ban people who correct you. Madstarrr (talk) 16:50, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am not threatening to ban you, you are edit warring which is against policy, so I gave you warning in the hopes that you stop so that no one gets in trouble. You can't compare the Forest Finns to the Sami, because the Sami still have their distinct communities intact, unlike the Forest Finns who no longer exist as a culture. TylerBurden (talk) 16:52, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@TylerBurden But they do. I have myself been to multiple meeting with their organizations, and I'm familiar with Norways recognition of the group as a living national minority. Madstarrr (talk) 16:58, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's WP:OR, unless there are reliable sources stating that Forest Finns still exist we can't say that they do. TylerBurden (talk) 17:00, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@TylerBurden Damn, thats some solid argumentation. I appreciate the link. Do YOU have any sources that are better than the legal recognition of group by the countries they live in? Madstarrr (talk) 17:06, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Are you familiar with core WP policies like WP:CITE? Because trust me, you're not going to accomplish anything with this attitude. TylerBurden (talk) 17:07, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@TylerBurden You are not argumenting for your position. You are making this a meta discussion. Please try to at least read up on the topics you are editing: https://www.regjeringen.no/no/dokumenter/Initial-report-The-Framework-Convention-for-the-Protection-of-National-Minorities/id420106/ Madstarrr (talk) 17:13, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What is my position? That Wikipedia policy should be followed? This is the first time you have provided an actual reference, other than mention that they exist. TylerBurden (talk) 17:15, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
An additional reference for Skogsfinnar in Sweden I found here https://www.minoritet.se/6906 TylerBurden (talk) 17:24, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So it seems there are at least small efforts for modern Skogsfinn identity, this would have been much easier if the references would have been used from the start. That being said I have updated and added the references mentioning modern descendants still living in both countries and them being a recognized minority in Norway. TylerBurden (talk) 17:25, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@TylerBurden Tried to tell you. It's also not a "small effort", but state commitments to several international treaties regarding national minorities, including the Council of Europes Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities (FCNM).
