Ahmed Khadr Biography


The artist was born in one of the most beautiful suburbs of Cairo on August 12th, 1948. He was born in the beautiful suburb of Maadi, Cairo. This beautiful suburb which is heavily influenced by British Architecture and Culture influenced Khadr a lot during his childhood. The artist studied in Victoria’s College in Maadi. One of the most Prestigious Schools in Cairo, where the likes of the King of Jordan, The Albanian Royal Family, and Omar Sharif attended. Due to the British influence in Education, the artist grew up heavily influenced by British Artists such as Turner, Moore, and many of the great British greats.

He started sketching since a young age and his family and teachers spotted this talent right away. The artist then applied to one of the most prestigious architecture and fine art schools in Cairo at the time which is the Leonardo Davinci institute in Cairo. Only a select few were accepted to this school. This school was created under the auspices of the Dante Alighieri Institute, which was established in Rome in 1889 to preserve and spread the Italian language and culture in the world”. In Egypt, its first committees were born in Alexandria and in Cairo in 1896.

The artist has always been known for his architectural designs in Cairo. He worked on various major projects but continued to sketch and paint throughout his life. He accumulated a large amount of graphite drawings throughout his life which were predominately created in the 1970s and 1980s and were stored away from the public eye.

The artist continues to sketch and paint until today and throughout his career has won numerous accolades. His work has often been compared to the works of Pablo Picasso, Henri Moore. His work is semi abstract and often depicts the female figurative form. The landscape in the suburbs in Cairo was very important to him including the beautiful old trees rivers, this influenced some of his work.
