Welcome![edit]

Hello, Maptrainguy, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate encyclopedic contributions, but some of your recent contributions, such as your edit to the page Ben Jealous, have removed content without an explanation. If you'd like to experiment with the wiki's syntax, please do so in the sandbox rather than in articles.

October 2018[edit]

Hello, and thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. However, there were several issues with your recent addition to Maryland gubernatorial election, 2018. One of these (a broken citation) would have been revealed by using the Preview button before submitting, which you should really get in the habit of doing. It can be challenging to check your work on a page with hidden elements, such as the endorsements list, but please do always check your work to make sure it hasn't damaged the page.

Also, the link you provided in your citation didn't work. I googled and replaced it with a similar one (same site) which did work.

The most important thing, though, is that you said in your edit summary that all endorsements were from https://benjealous.com/category/endorsements/. Multiple issues here:

  • This does not appear to be true (I checked a handful of names there and found some but not all).
  • If it were true, you'd still need to supply a more specific url, as what you included goes only to a page of search results.
  • Most importantly, mentioning something in the edit summary is not sufficient, and does not count as providing a source for your work. You need to actually cite that source with the text you're submitting.

I am taking your work on good faith here, and not removing your addition, because it does seem to be legit content. I just wanted to mention these issues so that going forward you'll have a better idea of what Wikipedia expects. If I can help with anything, just let me know. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Zachary Koung requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
