Trevor Chowning

[edit]

Hi, two things:

  1. It's Asperger syndrome, not "Asperger's Syndrome". AS should not be described as "a form of high-functioning autism". While AS is on the autism spectrum, there is dispute as to whether AS is "a form of autism" or a discrete diagnostic entity. Also, the concept of "functioning" is highly subjective, and within the autism rights movement, there is little support for using "functioning" labels, for several reasons: one is that they create ranking criteria where there need not be any. Another is that people with a diagnosis of AS can have severe limitations in their ability to cope and take care of themselves: there's no guarantee of having a high level of "functioning" with a diagnosis of AS.
  2. We still need a source for Chowning's purported involvement in this Aspie Art project; he's not mentioned anywhere on that website (that I could find). Whatever404 (talk) 10:55, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the information regarding AS, it is sincerely appreciated. As to the Aspie Art project, I noted his name along with that of another artist as upcoming galleries on the website, it is located at the very bottom under the images by the other listed artists. A separate issue, I believe some of the "references" would better be located in the "external links" section but do not have enough experience here yet to make that determination. Thank you.
