Miles' Peer Review by Lupita
[edit]Hi Miles,
Great work on improving the Biosignatures wiki article! I appreciate the content you have added as well as the images.
Some minor grammatical edits:
- "Measurable attributes of life include its complex physical and chemical structures and also its use of free energy and the production of biomass and wastes"I would get rid of "and also" and just add a comma.
- "evidence for living organisms outside the Earth and can be directly or indirectly detectable through searching for their unique byproducts." I would get rid of "..detectable through" and say "...detected by searching"
Links:
- All of your links work which is great. I think that when you are describing the types of biosignatures there are some more words that could be linked to wiki articles (i.e chemistry, minerals)
- link to the "false positives" wiki page and maybe also "oxygen"
- I also think it would be helpful to add maybe a sentence or two on false negatives within the same section of false positives
Citations/biases:
- Under the section of reliability, your last sentence "A disequilibrium such as this is an indication of life." might be a strong statement for some folks. Consider rephrasing it to something less biased or move citation 10 to the end of the sentence.
- Under survivability "Life always produces some sort of byproduct as it metabolizes materials around it to produce energy." probably could use a citation.
Overall, the article looks good!
