I'll be happy to fix your userpage!

[edit]

Hello Micahbrwn! I noticed your request to have your userpage renovated, and I will be happy to help. I am handy with Wiki-markup, and know my way around the Userboxing world. If you agree, I will create a sandbox page and make changes to your userpage there, as not to disrupt your real userpage. I will take the changes you want me to make one at a time, with your comments on how I am doing. I can offer advice, and, when you are completely satisfied with my work, I will turn the sandbox into your true userpage. No change of your signature required! No redirects! Tell me on my talk page if you accept, and also tell me what you want changed. Thank you! --FastLizard4 (Talk|Contribs) 04:36, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Work Beginning

[edit]

OK. I will begin immediately. Please be aware that sometimes I am unable to edit Wikipedia, and that the renovation process may take some weeks. I will be leaving on vacation in a week, but I should finish your page by then. If not, I will be able to finish your page at any time. Please note that you may opt-out of my services at any time by leaving a message below and removing the template on your userpage. Also, in the interest of organization, we should discuss changes here, not on my talk page.

Status Changer (that little red light)

[edit]

Without fail, every user has asked for that status changer. Since the changer requires edits to your User:Micahbrwn/monobook.js file, you have to make the edits yourself. Below are the step-by-step instructions.
1. Create a page called User:Micahbrwn/Status and copy the below to it

2. Create a page called User:Micahbrwn/StatusTemplate and copy the below to it

<!-- Credit User:Misza13 -->
<div style="border: 0px solid black; background: white; float: right; position: relative; top: -30px; padding: 5px">
Micahbrwn's status: {{ #switch: {}
| in=<span style="color: green;">Online </span>
| busy=<span style="color: blue;">Busy/Away </span>
| out=<span style="color: red;">Offline </span>
}}
</div>

3. Copy the below to your monobook.js (or appropriate) file

// User:Voice_of_All/Addtabs/monobook.js

importScript('User:Voice_of_All/Addtabs/monobook.js');

// User:Misza13/statusChanger.js

importScript('User:Misza13/statusChanger.js');

4. Clear your browser's cache
You should now see in, busy, and out to the left of log out at the top of the page (on any page)
To change your status, simply click in, busy, or out!
Please note that you must use the monobook theme for this to work.
Oh, and paste to any page you want your status displayed on. --FastLizard4 (Talk|Contribs) 04:03, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fastlizard: First, thanks for letting me know how to do the "Status changer thingy. I'll definitely play around with that!

To make things simpler, I will restate what I have requested on your Talk page:

I don't want anything really flashy, but I would like to sort of make my User page look a bit more cool. Maybe instead of having my userboxes all down one side, they could be arranged next to each other in the middle or something. Also, I have attempted to make my userboxes at least follow a common theme when I order them within each category, but if you want to play around with that, please do feel free. And a subtle border or background (that's other than the basic white) would be okay too … so long as it's understated. Oh, by the way: I've noticed that sometimes when I want to add (or rearrange) my userboxes, at times they'll overlap or do something odd. If you can fix that, great!

Also, I'd like the userpage to look relatively consistent — when I access it through Firefox, it looks a bit different than when I access through another browser (like IE or Safari for the Mac, for instance). I don't know if that's because of screen resolution differences between my computer at home and the one at work, but in any case, I'd like the layout to be relatively similar. If you suspect that it's a screen-res issue and not how the layout actually is, then no worries.

As for my Talk page, I'd prefer if the layout of that was left alone — but if you do fool around with the background of my main user page (adding a border, playing with the background color, or whatever), please do the same thing with the Talk page, for consistency's sake. Thanks!

Note

[edit]

As for your all browsers request, it is extremely hard to get it to do this. It is considered general practice on Wikipedia to use coding that is compatible with Mozilla Firefox. But, I am confused as to why it isn't displaying the same in Safari. It should. It could be screen resolution, but unless I know exactly what is different (I don't have a Mac), it will be very hard for me to fix. By the way, my next opportunity to edit your user page is July 28th and 29th Pacific daylight Time
--FastLizard4 (Talk|Contribs) 04:22, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine. Like I said, it's not a big issue. --Micahbrwn 04:24, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edit 1 Completed!

[edit]

OK. How is it now? Sandbox|diff
I essentially tabled the userboxes the best way I could find. Because some of the boxes aren't templates, it made the table look like a "quilt" style page. I got those not working userboxes to work, and removed a couple of non-existent userboxes.
--FastLizard4 (Talk|Contribs) 20:28, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not bad! I just wish the "Who I Am", "Hobbies", and "My Politics" userbox categories could be arranged a bit better, that is, so they'll fit together neatly. They just look a bit scattered, is all. Looking forward to Edit #2! If you want to play around with borders, background colors, and the like, feel free. Much appreciated! --Micahbrwn 23:32, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edit 2 Completed

[edit]

Edit 2 is completed! Sandbox|diff
I apologize, but there isn't much I can do about the spacing, or "quilt pattern" of the userbox tables. I made a couple of changes to the border color, take a look. See the diff for what I did. You can also change the border size, by changing (for example) border: red solid 1px to border: red solid 5px. If you want anything else, just say so below. If you are completely satisfied, say so below, and I will seamlessly move the page to overwrite your old userpage. Also, just in case, I also make an archive of your old userpage.
--FastLizard4 (TalkContribs) 02:34, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is it possible for the background of the page to have a different color? Nothing too garish, but something along the lines of robins'-egg blue or something? Thanks for the borders, they look great! --Micahbrwn 04:02, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I'm not sure how to do the backgrounds. I'm not going to lie about that.
--FastLizard4 (TalkOther) 00:47, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Your revamping is approved then. Lets move what you've done to the real User page and get rid of the sandbox. Thanks for all your help, it looks great! --Micahbrwn 01:12, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I may not be able to do it right away, but I will get to you soon. I will leave a note on your talk page before I begin.

Move in progress

[edit]

OK. I'm currently moving your pages. This will take only a few minutes.
Warning! Do not edit pages in your userpage until further notice, as this may disrupt the move process. Thank you for your patience.
