Hi Mickazilla! Welcome to Wikipedia. There's an official welcome template, but I've long since forgotten what it was. :) We welcome your contributions.

Recent inquiry about Sega Genesis article name[edit]

Just wanted to drop you a line about your inquiry in WT:SEGA regarding the title of the Sega Genesis article. As Red Phoenix mentioned, there's been a really long history of warring over that article, so much so that it's even referenced in some of Wikipedia's official guidelines on user conduct and title policies. There's a FAQ that goes over this history in detail - if you haven't already, please take a look at it to get some context.

Your argument (regarding the fact that the console is known as the Mega Drive everywhere in the world except North America) is certainly reasonable. The main issue is that it's also been argued many times before - it's among the most common arguments in the debate, and as mentioned in the FAQ, there are other policy-based arguments against it that have had greater weight in forming the current consensus for sticking with the Genesis title.

The main thing that we're looking for in the debate is new, reliably-sourced information that makes a stronger argument for moving to the Mega Drive name. At present, we don't have a clear definition for what that information would be, and since the debate dates all the way back to 2003, we doubt any such info exists at this point (it would likely have been presented by now). This is not meant to discourage or demean your inquiry, but rather to just explain why we're sticking to our guns on this one.

Again, welcome to Wikipedia, and please feel free to contribute to our articles-in-progress. :) — KieferSkunk (talk) — 19:19, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
