peer review of Ferromanganese nodules

[edit]

1) In the lead section, typical composition and other characteristics of ferromanganese nodules need to be included in the first sentence, for example "Ferromanganese nodules are mineral concretions made of silicates and insoluble permanganates that form on the ocean seafloor and terrestrial soils." The lead almost covers the important information like the elements contained in ferromanganese nodules, formation environment and formation mechanism. The weight of the lead is proper.

2) The main structure develops clear and easy to understand, especially "composition" and "formation" parts. However, the parts of "Impact on nutrient cycles" and "Potential as a rare metal resource" are required to further expand. Some more details are suggested to provide, like in the "formation-terrestrail" part describes "Trace metals composition is a product of three processes:", what kinds of trace metals is recommended to mention, which is also the critical information for next part explaining ferromanganese nodules are resources of rare metals.

3) Each section's length actually equal to its importance to the article's subject. The lead section is brief and condense while the article body expands well and contains more information in details. The article reflects all the perspectives represented in the papers, and the article stands in the middle and it doesn't try to convey personal views.

4) No words conveying personal negative or positive point of views, like "the best idea", "people say", are included. The article describes the fact according to the published literatures.

5) The statements is from published papers, and a lot of statements coming from one sources specially "formation" part. Additionally, more literatures from mainstream journals are expected to be introduced in the articles. The format of reference need to be checked as well.
