The Mindanao Polytechnic College was established in 1980 by Capt. Arturo A. Aguilar, MM, and his wife Mrs. Susana R. Aguilar. Capt. Aguilar, a master mariner by profession and a former harbor pilot of the port of General Santos City, and Mrs. Aguilar, an education graduate and a business entrepreneur, combined their talents and resources to give rise to the only maritime school in the SOCSKSARGEN area, one of the growth centers in Southern Mindanao.
The School was initially named Mindanao Polytechnic School (MPS). At the start, it rented two separate buildings in downtown (formerly known as Dadiangas). The school eventually gained prominence in 1981 when the prestigious Philippine Association of Maritime Institutions (PAMI) accepted the school as a full-fledged member. In the same year, MPS President Capt. Aguilar was elected as one of the officers of PAMI. The school became a member of the Philippine Association of Private Technical Institutions (PAPTI). It was also in June 1981 when the school transferred to its new campus site at Crossing Makar of the same city.
As an index of its progressive development as an educational institution, the school changed its name to Mindanao Polytechnic College in 1984. Responding to the challenge of global competitiveness, the school is now offering courses other than maritime courses such as courses in Mechanical Engineering, Hotel and Restaurant Management, and Information Technology, among others.
Mpc is committed to quality education. Reflective of said commitment is its being certified by the internationally renowned maritime accrediting agency of Norway, the Det Norske Veritas (DNV), to be in compliance with the regulaitons of the Commission on Higher Education on Standards Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers.
Now on the 29th year of operation, MPC still sustains its quest for quality education.
