Surrey Admin HQ
[edit]I would like to inform you that Kingston-upon-Thames is no longer part of Surrey, but is a part of Greater London. As it says on the Guildford Wikipedia page, it says that Guildford is the county town. I am slightly confused. EverythingGeography (talk) 20:06, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
- Guildford is the county town of Surrey, but Surrey County Council is based in Kingston-Upon-Thames. This means that the administrative HQ, where the county administration takes place (County Hall), is Kingston-Upon-Thames - where it has been since 1893 (Before that it was even further north - in Newington). I believe there have been attempts to move it, but none have ever come to fruition. -- Mrmatiko (talk) 20:34, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you, I thought Admin HQ and county town were the same! EverythingGeography (talk) 20:47, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not surprised, after all they usually are the same, Surrey is a bit of a strange county in that respect. Looking at County Hall (Surrey), it seems that there was a plan to move it to Woking in the 2000s but this fell through. I see that you are quite new here, hopefully you are settling in ok. If you have any questions or ever need any help, just leave a message here and I'll see what I can do. -- Mrmatiko (talk) 20:54, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
Reason for removing VBS3 from "Bohemia Interactive"?
[edit]Hi, I'm curious as to why the this [1] change was undone. Granted the source was reddit, though this is coming from a source within the US military [2]. That being said, here is a official (BISim) statement VBS3 is currently under development [3]. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Harmpie (talk • contribs) 22:31, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
- There were no reliable sources available at the time I made that revert (14 July). The dates on the new (more reliable) sources that you've given are 16 July. Obviously I wouldn't revert the addition now because it is properly sourced. -- Mrmatiko (talk) 08:26, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

Deleting Links to the Exploring Surrey's Past website on Surrey place pages
[edit]Hi - I wondered why you had deleted the link to the Exploring Surrey's Past website on the Abinger page (and possibly others).
The website is run by Surrey County Council and in addition to providing general information on People, Places, Times and other topics related to Surrey it provides cross-searchable access to the primary source collections at the County archive and a number of museums and other institutions.
We felt that anyone looking at the Wikipedia page would be interested in findng out what other historical information there might be, that's not yet available in digital form, about their local area, house or family.
This is the first time we've tried adding links to Wikipedia so we're not experienced users but my understanding was that such external links were allowed.
I have to admit that I don't understand how these talk pages work so I'd really prefer to have a discussion with you directly by e-mail to understand why you felt it wasn't appropriate to include a link to the Exploring Surrey's Past website.
Any help and guidance you can provide would be gratefully received
Thanks
Phil Cooper Exploring Surrey's Past Officer

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. New deal for page patrollers
[edit]Hi Mrmatiko,
In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.
Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.
Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

"Unused ref"
[edit]Hi there, re: this, I'm curious what you mean by "Removed unused refs" in your edit summary. How are these references not being used? I see that you've removed a number of references, so I'm curious what your rationale is, since I don't think your explanation is very clear. Thank you. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 03:17, 5 January 2017 (UTC)
- Those two references are not used in the article itself. The text where they were used has been cut out, so they no longer support anything. This makes the references template complain because there are references that aren't used just sitting there. I suggest that they are removed because they no longer support the text, but if you think they are useful then please cite them somewhere relevant. -- Mrmatiko (talk) 16:39, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
- Ah, I appreciate the explanation. Thank you. I think what happened was this guy removed the ref tags for some questionable reason known only to them, which (I think) created the ref errors that you were solving. I'll clean it up. Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:51, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
