Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not delete sourced material in Wikipedia articles as you did in the Janet Wu (WHDH) article unless you have reason to believe the sources or information can be proven false with counterexamples. Especially doing so without discussion with other editors. --- Wikiklrsc (talk) 20:45, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
Your comment
[edit]Regarding your comment about the contents and cited information in the Janet Wu (WHDH) article ... This is a bigger issue which needs to be addressed by the Wikipedia/Wikimedia corporate team. You should write to Wikipedia/Wikimedia Foundation and say what you've said. I've mitigated what was written before as per your request although I don't know who you are. "NH212" is not identifiable. We at Wikiedpia -- I mean just a peer volunteer editor like me -- don't really know who "NH212" is. Nevertheless, as I've said, I did some edits to assuage the information. There are some complications. Some other Wikipedia editor can put it back in. There is a history to each article and the information remains there in perpetuity accessible by anyone. So if it is a grave matter, to delete all this, you must petition the authorities at Wikipedia or Wikimedia foundation to handle, in a larger way, the request. Being a public figure leaves what's in a biography open. All information was gotten from publically available sources and they were online elsewhere already (such as the "Charles River Review" with the "Identity Crisis" essay and the "Homeward Bound" esaay which was in an anthology which included more information about Janet Wu, biographically). --- Wikiklrsc (talk) 23:32, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
For the larger issue, please contact the Wikimedia Foundation and furnish them with requests. See: http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Contact_us. This could go either way. It's way out of my hands at that level. Best wishes. --- Wikiklrsc (talk) 23:52, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
I am forced by custom to refer this matter of the edits and your request to a Wikipedia administrator, User:SchuminWeb. See thus comment left for administrator on this matter. I made the edits as per your request with the caveats stated above. I would still encourage you to think about contacting the Wikimedia Foundation if the issue is as dire as you said. Bests. --- Wikiklrsc (talk) 00:31, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
Besides the Wikimedia Foundation contacts stated above see also "contacting Wikipedia": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Contact_us. See also: Wikipedia:Volunteer Response Team article since they actually handle the requests or at least involved with its resolution. --- Wikiklrsc (talk) 01:06, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

Further comment
[edit]The Wikipedia administrator, User:SchuminWeb, after evaluating the situation at my request, put the material back in as per Wikipedia ostensible policy especially since the material was already available on the web in cited sources openly. It is worth noting that the Janet Wu (WHDH) article was created in March 2010 (archived copy http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Janet_Wu_%28WHDH%29&oldid=347766629), not by me. In that original article, Ms. Wu's birthplace was included already. I only started editing the article, once in August 2011, and later in August 2012, in good faith. Wishing you well, NH212. --- Wikiklrsc (talk) 03:26, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
Further comment from NH212
[edit]Thank you. It is me, and I have had some problems. Incidentally, one of the anthologies had my wrong birth year due to an editor's mistake. Another listed 1960 which is way off. I welcome the mistakes since someone was able to find my birthdate and mother's name and track me down which was not pleasant to encounter at 3am.
I will contact the foundation. I am honored and flattered that people have added to the page, but I do not think personal information is necessary. If possible, could you find a way to add "Marina Keegan and the Gift of Time" which was an essay recently printed in the Boston Globe. (One that also has a more timeless aspect to it.
I am generally a Luddite and don't edit these things. I thank you. ---- added 04:34, 7 October 2012 User:NH212
- Very good. If the anthology is incorrect which published 1966 as Janet Wu's birth year, we need a published retraction or corrigendum from that publisher or something academically cite-able elsewhere published to contradict it, in that 1966 is in print already. In general, encyclopedias have place of of birth, date of birth (not just year of birth), etc. for a person's article -- if not even more and more information which could be labeled as "personal". Wikipedia is no different in this respect. There are maybe hundreds of thousands of articles in Wikipedia with biographies of living people including sourced and cited information such as date of birth, place of birth, spouse, children, schools, etc. However, the Wikimedia Foundation dictates policy, so you are best off taking up the point with them. I have just included in the Janet Wu (WHDH) article the Janet Wu authored New York Times essay about Marina Keegan which was a very touching story and terribly tragic and indeed a wake-up call. Again, another Wikipedia editor could take it out but it's in there now. As an aside, and as a commentary on our modern times, "It is me" doesn't necessarily have the same semantics and believability in the wired, online world. Bests. --- (Bob) Wikiklrsc (talk) 03:21, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
- I wouldn't even bother with the Foundation. The community determines its own policy with very few exceptions, so just start discussing. SchuminWeb (Talk) 04:19, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
- Also added the Wu 2012 article on Marina Keegan to the Yale College Democrats article. --- (Bob) Wikiklrsc (talk) 00:59, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
A few points to consider
[edit]A few points to consider when dealing with articles where you are the subject of the article:
- Don't contact me on Facebook about Wikipedia matters. I only respond to Wikipedia matters on Wikipedia in order to make sure that all discussions are captured as part of the public record in case we ever need to refer back to them.
- Your message to me gave positive confirmation that User:NH212 = Janet Wu (WHDH). There is now no doubt that you are the subject of this article. So you need to follow the rules about articles written about you. See Wikipedia:Autobiography and WP:COI for more information on such things.
- You should not directly edit articles where you have a close connection to the subject. See Wikipedia:Autobiography#Problems in an article about you for guidance on this matter. In short: use the talk page.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please address them on Wikipedia. SchuminWeb (Talk) 13:00, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
OTRS ticket and decision
