Sales tax in Illinois

[edit]

Hi, Mariez. What you may not know is that there is a state sales tax, but that local communities in Illinois can and often do add their own sales tax to purchases. These will then be combined on a sales receipt because the Illinois Department of Revenue collects the money for the local communities, then gives it back to them.

If you look here, you'll find a list of all "Locally Imposed Sales Taxes Administered by the Department of Revenue" by communities. It's a pretty long document, in the neighborhood of 20 pages. You may have more luck finding your community's taxes here, which allows you to search by municipality name.

So anyway, buddy, I have to revert you, because you simply appear to be mistaken. But do NOT let this upset you. Most everyone gets reverted now and again--often on our first edit. But stick around, and try to become a member of this project. We need you! HuskyHuskie (talk) 20:05, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
