Appearance
Goals
[edit]- Simplify the article to focus on just the history of Wintel with fewer digressions
- More encyclopedic
- Check references for bias; favor references that specifically discuss "Wintel"
- Make clearer that "Wintel" was never a formal name of a Microsoft/Intel partnership

First cut
[edit]- Focusing on lead: "Wintel" was originally a nickname for the growingly dominant platform/phenomenon (note: first common usage appears to be ca. 1993)
- Changed short desc to reflect above
- Changed the presentation of the logos to make several things clearer and avoid misimpressions:
- This is not a "Wintel" logo; it's two separate logos
- Assign dates to the two logos, not "current" (per WP:RELTIME)

Origins
[edit]- Late 1994 -- in October, news of the AIM alliance referenced the term. Alliance had been around since 1991.
- Michael Spindler was quoted in trade mags referring to Wintel as the competition
