Adoption[edit]

Hi, we just talked over in Halo 3 and you seem friendly and more experianced than me. So could you mentor me? I've been looking to do just more than edit articles here as I think I've just exhausted what I was interested in (DKC2). NarSakSasLee (talk) 16:38, 26 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. What sort of things were you looking into? If it's going to be anything about uploading pictures, I'm afraid I'm not the person to ask. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 16:41, 26 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well just generally helping with the policy and stuff like that. I often read a few discussions on talk pages and I don't know what they mean. I think other people use it to their advantage when users like me try to edit stuff. Its frustrating because they seem to twist things. I just want to know the general, more basic stuff, summarized in a few lines. NarSakSasLee (talk) 16:46, 26 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay then, that's no problem. I'm not familiar on every policy, but I know the majority of them and I think I can sum them up succinctly. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 16:48, 26 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

3 December 2009[edit]

Hi, sorry for taking so long, but I had university work to do. But anyway, I have had a problem thats been irritating me slightly. One of the users on the DKC2 article keeps stating that the Japanese name be not mentioned in the lead of the paragraph. The company who developed it was Japanese but the developer was UK based. I think becuase the original Donkey Kong article has the Japanese name why shouldn't DKC2? What should I do? Just place it in the lead, I think the person also quoted a policy that refrained me from doing it but am I being decieved? I'm confused and don't know what to do pretty much. NarSakSasLee (talk) 11:21, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's no trouble. Current policy by my understanding says that Japanese names are only used if the game was developed in Japan. This is the same for release dates where, unless the game was developed there, we only mention release dates for countries that have English as a predominant language. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 12:08, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, yes I'm not ignoring you or anything but I've had a hectic week at university, so responding wasn't on my priority list, so no worries. I also want to say thank you as well. You've basically cleared up what was bothering me. Also do you know why it takes so long for people to review articles that are nominated for GA status? NarSakSasLee (talk) 00:11, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As long as you don't take a month to reply (if you think you'll vanish for that long, place a note on my talk page just so I don't get worried). I'm not involved with GA reviews myself so far and only really come across them in passing. However, I would presume that it is because of the strict rules required for GA (even more for FA status). I think they need two editors to agree on bumping the rating up and those editor need to search very carefully, through all the citations and all the coding, make sure it's right and a lot of editors simply don't have the time to do that quickly. I would presume that's why it can take so long, though this is only a guess. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 00:28, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, don't worry I'm not going away for a month yet. NarSakSasLee (talk) 21:37, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

23 December 2009[edit]

Season's greetings! Okay, so I went absent for a long time I hope this hasn't phased you in any way. I'm looking for something to do is there any areas where you can direct me (such as a list of articles for clean up) in the anime and video games projects?? I'm usually bored and looking for something to do here ever since I finished DKC2 Also how do I create a template? I want one for my userpage. NarSakSasLee (talk) 12:23, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, I'm fine. In fact, it's probably a good thing that you didn't show up for a while. My life got a bit of an upheaval and it's messed up my editing abilities for a short time. Mostly fine now though. Anyway, hi! If you want, I can search for the anime WikiProject, but since I know where it is, here's the video games lists so far. This category contains pages marked for clean-up. This page, on the other hand, allows you to click on any of the importance or quality rating and be given links to all of them (though, as far as I can see, it's sadly impossible to pick both the importance and quality, so if you want to work on High-importance stubs, you'll need to search around for them). Secondly, exactly what sort of template are you looking for? Are you looking for a userbox, a page to transclude to the userpage (meaning that all of the coding is on a different page, thus tidying up the page a bit) or do you mean you want something like my new userpage? --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 12:43, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, well, i just hope your okay now with your life. As for the template I was think something like those at the bottom of articles. I want shortcuts, personalised of course, so I can quickly navigate to other articles, wikiprojects and clean up lists or catagories or even people. I didn't realise that userboxes were proper templates too. As for your userpage -- its far too complex for me because there is probably so much code that my brain may get frazzled. Yeah and I probably want them "transcluded" (such big words for a simple task!) how do I go about doing it?. NarSakSasLee (talk) 13:07, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What the...? Damn it! Sorry about the wait. I had responded about an hour or two after your question but the edit clearly didn't go through for some reason. (grumbling) Okay, let me see if I can remember what I'd said... First off, it's just a simple matter of doing this ("{{uaa|nb}}"). That's the most simple way to add a template. However, transcluding does have a few problems. If an alteration is made to the page being transcluded, that alteration will appear on all the pages it is being transcluded to. This is sometimes helpful (e.g. it allows me to see your responses here on my talk page). However, if a vandal attacks the page, it you may end up with a swear word on a couple of thousand pages, say. Hence, substition is sometimes used, like so ("{{subst:uaa|nb}}"). Depending on what the template is, you may want to transclude, you may want to substitute. It's complex, but you'll probably get the hang of it quickly enough. Anyway, as for the template, I'll create it for you and then tell you what I did (that'd be the easiest thing to do). Give me a bullet point list of everything you want in the template (and if you want them in any particular grouping or if that's left up to my judgement). I... err... think that's everything I'd said... --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 01:40, 30 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Update: "This page, on the other hand, allows you to click on any of the importance or quality rating and be given links to all of them (though, as far as I can see, it's sadly impossible to pick both the importance and quality, so if you want to work on High-importance stubs, you'll need to search around for them)." All WikiProject using this system have been updated and you now can crossreference quality and importance (though it takes you outside of Wikipedia to do so). --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 15:29, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
