A tag has been placed on User:OSLedgerock, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. You have violated one or more of our rules, including rules against adding spam links, posting advertisements, using Wikipedia for promotion, and editing inappropriately with a conflict of interest. Although Wikipedia has a great many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See Wikipedia:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. See Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals here, you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

If you do intend to make contributions that are in line with Wikipedia's policies, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} below this message box.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
See also Wikipedia:Appealing a block for more information. –Juliancolton | Talk 22:27, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock[edit]

{{unblock-spamun|RockOn|I have read and understood the reason for being blocked. I understand that what was written in the User Page appeared to be a promotional page, however this was not my intention. I am new to Wikipedia, and I'm still trying to figure out how it all works. I am not a member of the company and perhaps shouldnt be using their name as my user ID, however the name was chosen as a way to draw attention to the article. I would like to create a page a page about Owen Sound Ledgerock Limited. They are a local business here in Owen Sound Ontario, and have provided limestone for many architectural and landscaping projects around the world. My wish is not to promote them but to inform the public on the company and their limestone production. I understand that I have gone about it the wrong way and would like to attempt to recreate the page in an appropriate manner.Thank you for your time. OSLedgerock (talk) 13:32, 18 September 2009 (UTC)}}[reply]

I've reviewed this topic, and did a google search and I see no evidence that there is any substantial information about them published in reliable sources: it's a local business with a very low profile, and Wikipedia is not the Yellow Pages. This topic will not be accepted by the community. I've unblocked you to change your name. But be aware that if you push for inclusion of this inappropriate article you'll probably end up blocked again quickly: I hope you will develop other editing interests. Please put your name change request in at Wikipedia:Changing username. Do it before you do anything else, if you want to avoid reblocking. Mangojuicetalk 15:31, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have looked at other articles on Wikipedia on different construction companies and they have few references, if I can prove I have substantial references and resources, would it be possible to post this article? The Article is not solely based on the company itself but also information on the material provided, looking at ASTM reports and such, as well as the quarrying process. Please let me know if this would be possible.

I have a question, why did you add the sandbox link just now? Who told you to do so? Triplestop x3 20:10, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It was an accident. Just trying to figure out how it all works. OSLedgerock (talk) 20:14, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Are you sure? For example, where did you learn that you could use relative paths for user subpage links? It is important that you answer honestly. Also, you need to go to WP:CHU and post a request there. Triplestop x3 20:16, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I am waiting for the block on my account to be lifted so that I can change my name, the link will not let me post a request until the block is lifted, at least that was my understanding. Also, from what I read above, I thought that once my name was change I would be able to post new article ideas. I was reading up on how to post articles and it mentioned under the Wikipedia:Your first article, that you could experiment with articles under a sandbox, so I followed up on how to create a sandbox and tried it out. I appologize if I was not allowed to. OSLedgerock (talk) 20:29, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You are certainly welcome to have a sand box however I am asking you why you added the link below. And if you are still affected by a block follow the instructions on the message. Triplestop x3 20:47, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The link was accidentally added below. I had a time limited on my block but I think it should have been lifted by today. Thanks though. OSLedgerock (talk)
