Oscar Strugstad
[edit]Hi there. Thank you for your various corrections across the English Wikipedia on Norwegian sports articles. Though I am a little curious about this edit - that the Oscar Strugstad that played in the 1905 Cup Final is the same guy as the military officer is not supported by any sources, or do you have access to any sources that supports this? Cheers, Mentoz86 (talk) 11:59, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Mentoz! I have no sources that proves Oscar Strugstad the officer and Oskar Strugstad the footballer is the same person. However, I believe it is very likely. First: The name is not very common. No other people were called Oskar/Oscar Strugstad in the 1900- and 1910 censuses exept for the officer's father. Second: His father was chairman of the Centralforeningen of sports 1906–1916, so it is not unlikely that the son was an athlete. Third: Norwegian sports at this time was influenced and dominated by the army, and for instance his teammate Nikolai Ramm Østgaard pursued both a sporting and a military career. Fourth: Little is known about most players of Akademisk FK, except that they were young, students or cadets, and that the club was dissolved shortly after 1905. I therefore believe it is very probable that the 17 and a half year old in 1905 footballer Oskar Strugstad is the same person as the officer Oscar Strugstad.
- I know we should be able to verify everything on wikipedia using reliable sources, so if you want to undo my edit you are welcome to do so. At the same time, have a look at Odd-player Erling Jensen in the 1905 final. According to his birth date, he was 14 years old when he won the final. That's very young, isn't it? The gymnast Erling Jensen was from Skien, so he might very well have been playing football along with fellow gymnast Petter Hol. But I still find it strange that Odd used a fourteen year old player. Are we sure this isn't another Erling Jensen, or that his birth date is correct? Best regards Pepebasu (talk) 11:57, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
