Emergency calls
[edit]Hi, Jim. It was good but afterward, you can't imagine how many "emergency" emails I got from students whose pages were either edited or erased or reverted. Even though Adam wrote to several people, he simply can't keep up with the sheer number of edits/erasures. It's a shame. I think this is the one thing that might negatively affect student responses to the pilot project. We'll have to find a way to put a banner or some sign on pages under construction or something like "Please do not edit until X. This is page is a class project." What do you think? - Probably Adam @User:Mitchazenia can suggest improvements or maybe a different template to put on the pages being worked on. Oh, it says "talk page" because it's on your Talk page, but it won't say that when it's on an article.
- I was laboriously figuring who had what article, when by plain accident (!) I clicked on my "Courses" link, whence of course intentional clicks led to the roster and other information. However, it seems to me there's an additional way an old-timer seeing apparent trouble can be warned of what's up. That would be a block of standard material, probably atop every student's user Talk page. Text would say this is a student, and provide links to you, me, others in the know, the school and course name, and so forth. Umm, or maybe the school identification (Red Hawks frenzy box!) belongs on the user page instead of Talk. Anyway I have much to learn if I'm to do the job properly. And I thought I had given up tech learning when I retired from high tech industry.
Thanks for your reply, Jim. And, I appreciate your ideas! Let's see what we might be able to come up with. Megan Nacy and I are really interested in meeting with people who might help facilitate this kind of project. Perhaps we can all learn ways to do this better and better. Back to grading. Talk soon.
