Please do no use Wikipedia to advertise your site. We are building an encyclopedia and your links are not compatable with this. I have remvoed your links. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 14:56, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • The following message was sent to me from this user by e-mail:

Hi Ryan,

I received your message about removing the links that I had added. I am a bit puzzled about your action for the following reasons:

1. Each link collection has only quality websites listed with an original description of what someone can expect to find at the website. 2. Links have been categorised into sub-directories for ease of use. 3. Local media links have been listed which is an invaluable resource of information for anyone interested on up to date information on the clubs.

A lot of work has gone into compiling and organising these links. I am new to wikipedia but my basic understanding is that you want to share and promote information.

For example, the wikipedia Bristol City page has 3 external links. Ok pretty useful for someone searching on information about the club. If you'd kept my link on the page a user would have had access to 8 websites including local media and discussion forums. How is your policy warranted in this case?

My entries are definitely useful to anyone seeking information on the subjects I have edited. Therefore I do think you've acted prematurely in deleting my entries.

I await your reply but will not pursue the matter if you do not change your mind.

Regards

Hi, when adding a link to a site that you are personally involved in, it can be considered a conflict of interest. If not kept in check, people adding their own links quickly gets out of hand. What you can do is go back to those pages and click the discussion button, there will be a talk page where you can ask other editors if they think the link is appropriate.

If the other editors think it is appropriate they will add the link for you, but you should not add the link yourself. If you have any questions, you can ask me here, I prefer to talk here as opposed to e-mail. Thanks for your polite response. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 15:27, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
