I saw you deleted the page Three Corners District using PROD back in 2019. As a Richmond native, I've been interested with the history of the city since my school days, and remember reading this article a few years ago. It had some decent information from numerous users, and I believe had survived a flag or 2 over a period of time. Can the deletion of the entire article and its history using PROD honestly be considered a situation where "no opposition to the deletion is expected"?
While I can't attest to the veracity of the name "Three Corners District," I am not aware of any other name for this very real and noteworthy neighborhood—the lack of a name somewhat supported in this well-researched and cited blog post. Either way, I think this topic belongs on Wikipedia, and am curious about your motivations for PRODing and thoughts on the matter. Thank you. RWEnoch (talk) 23:47, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hi, to answer your first question, PRODs are considered an appropriate first step in nominating a page for deletion. The original user who placed the PROD on the article page must consider whether the deletion would be considered controversial, and that proved true in the seven days the page was tagged—no other user contested the proposed deletion—and in the following year and a half, as this topic was not mentioned up until now.
- In their rationale, the nominator pointed to points six and seven of WP:DEL-REASON for justifying the PROD. In order for a topic to be considered notable and merit inclusion on Wikipedia, it must have received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. Please not that blogs are generally not considered reliable sources. You have stated that you can not verify the name of this district, which does not bode well due to the verifiability policy. - I was trying to make a distinction between the noteworthiness of the neighborhood/district itself (i.e. literally the land and the buildings on it) and whatever name may or may not be applied. The blog I linked is not necessary to prove the area's noteworthiness. Is there any room on Wikipedia for a subject that could be considered noteworthy, but may not have an "official" name or identity? - The original nominator was Morgan Riley, I was simply the reviewing administrator. A subject is considered notable based on existing criteria and guidelines, perhaps the most pertinent being WP:NGEO in this case. If the most common name of the area is "Three Corners District", then the article title would be named as such if it is proven to be notable. ƏXPLICIT 03:06, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
