BCE/CE vs. BC/AD

[edit]

Hi, Rachtach. I understand your reasoning for changing BC to BCE in the article Trojan War. However, this has been the subject of edit warring in the past, and the compromise position that was reached was that whatever system an article uses when it is created should be kept. See WP:ERA for more details, and if you really want to get into the ugly details of the old disputes that led us here, you can read Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Jguk. Thanks. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 04:42, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The guideline says that either can be used, but "It is inappropriate for a Wikipedia editor to change from one style to another unless there is a substantive reason." Being politically correct isn't really a substantive reason.
I'm sympathetic, but you have to realize that a lot of time was wasted over this fairly trivial matter, and the current compromise ended a long and tedious edit war. When an article is created with BC/AD, we keep BC/AD; when it's created with BCE/CE, we keep BCE/CE. Reverting again won't help. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 04:55, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
