User talk:Rillifane
Being rather older than most people here (a few days short of 69 years old as a type this) perhaps my knowledge of this subject is hopelessly out of date. However, as I remember being taught there is formal wear consisting of (in then evening) White tie and tails and informal which meant black tie and dinner jacket. I have never heard anyone use the term semi-formal. At home, in my youth we wore jacket and tie to simply sit around and watch TV. My grandfather always lamented that we had become so slovenly and bourgeois that we no longer "dressed for dinner" by which he meant wearing at least informal (i.e. black tie).
Anyway, just a personal observation that you can use or discard as you see fit.
