Moving Costa Rica district articles

[edit]

@Onel5969: Hi, I saw your contributions on the Sarchí articles, so I was motivated to find if any other district could be moved to a simpler article title instead of Something-Something District as they were created en masse last year. I created this list at User:Roqz/distmove to check for red links. Is it feasible/desired to do such changes? Can you help me with this task? Thanks! --Roqz (talk) 18:46, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Just noticed that some place names like Tárcoles or Savegre might require to be dab page, as they are districts named after a nearby river that also doesn't have an article... --Roqz (talk) 18:53, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Roqz, that's quite an extensive list. Sure I'll help. But sometimes, as you note above, it's not simply enough to move a page. You might have to create a dab, or add to an existing dab (like I just did with Carmen (district. I'll delete items from your list as I do them, and suggest you do the same so we don't waste each other's time. Onel5969 TT me 19:03, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Onel5969 Thanks a lot! Yes, there are 488 districts in Costa Rica, it was a pending job to tackle some sort of standardization, so I took over to add available open data to each one, but there are many that can have its own direct page. I think focusing on the red links is enough at the moment, later the (district) instead of District can be worked one. I have read news of two new proposed districts, but nothing firm, so this project was similar to adding all county/boroughs of some state in the USA, and now its done for the foreseeable future. Next I will continue on the cantons, because many lack infoboxes, maps and demographics data. --Roqz (talk) 19:25, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to list articles here that need a better look than I can give. Such as District Drinker, which is also called Bebedero in the article. Not sure which is correct. And Horquetas, which is also called Las Horquetas. Onel5969 TT me 01:35, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Another one: Dark Lands, but I think that is the English translation.Onel5969 TT me 01:46, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Onel5969: Oh, that was fast! I was thinking on working on this through the weeks/months! Horquetas, Sarapiquí official name is Las Horquetas (Territorial Division, look for 410 03 LAS HORQUETAS... that document is the magna carta of district names, this is the latest from 2019 it is updated every 2-3-4 years), but almost nobody calls it with 'Las', same thing happens with official Monte Verde district, but popularly known as Monteverde (I kept it like that)... Probably Horquetas with an official_name value in the infobox of Las Horquetas is the best way to go? Bebedero does translate to Watering Hole, or Drinking Place, but I don't see District Drinker in the article... Bebedero is OK... Dark Lands? is that Tierras Morenas? That would be translated like Brown Skinned Lands or Tanned Lands Also, I don't see that translation there... --Roqz (talk) 14:46, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
