An initial question

[edit]

I'll need some time to really examine this draft page, but first, I have a question from the start. To what extent is this page a sort of notepad for things to discuss about revising WP:PROF – and to what extent is it intended to become an essay page, standing separately from the guideline page? I'm asking that because the name, as a "manual", implies a supplementary essay, but a lot of what's there now sounds more like musings about what needs to be fixed in the guideline. --Tryptofish (talk) 23:24, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's both, at the moment. It seems to me that some of the guidelines have gone a little adrift because the thinking behind them has not been articulated outside of talk pages. So I'm putting down my impression of how the guidelines are supposed to work, and saying what changes I think are needed to make them work that way. However, I'd also like this to eventually morph into a more permanent essay that would be applicable to SNG's in general.
You can probably guess why I want to discuss it here first. RockMagnetist (talk) 00:14, 17 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I sure can. But that makes it harder for me to know what to suggest. Anyway, I'll give it some thought, keep it on my watchlist, and make suggestions and revisions as I think of them. --Tryptofish (talk) 23:51, 17 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Give me a couple of days. I am looking through old discussions and trying to decide what consensus there is, if any, and what the questions are. RockMagnetist (talk) 21:17, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I'm too busy in real life to do much editing lately anyway. --Tryptofish (talk) 21:35, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
