Welcome!

Hello, Russellsage, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome!

Hello. On the assumption that your screenname indicates a relationship with the Foundation, I'd like to point you to Wikipedia's policies on editing with a conflict of interest. Please read these carefully and follow the advice given there. I'd also like to inquire if any of the substantial amount of text you added to the article comes from copyrighted material issued by the Foundation. If so, it cannot be used here: the ideas inherent in it must be totally rewritten so as to not breach our policy on copyright violations. Alternately, you can write to WP:OTRS and establish with them permission from the Foundation to use their text.

If you have any questions about these issues, I'll be glad to help, although I'll point out that I am not an administrator, simply a rank-and-file editor. You can also go to the help desk and ask questions there. Thanks for your contribution to the encyclopedia. Beyond My Ken (talk) 17:29, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

COI[edit]

Thank you for the welcome to Wikipedia. I confess I was not aware of the COI page. I do in fact have an affiliation with the Russell Sage Foundation. Nevertheless, I tried to edit the page with a neutral point of view, and I believe my edits are still relevant and useful to Wikipedia for adding some much-needed historical background on the organization. I have included sources and citations from third-party sources where possible. But in the future, I will follow Wikipedia's best practices and request help before I post anything that may be controversial. Thank you again for your assistance in this matter!Russellsage (talk) 18:18, 30 June 2011 (UTC)Russellsage[reply]

When I posted the above, I hadn't had the chance to look over your contribution very closely, which I have now done. By and large, I think you did a good job in maintaining a neutral point of view. I think my biggest objection would be to the large number of in-line external links to the Foundation's website, which could come off as being somewhat promotional; I'm going to go through them and convert appropriate ones to references and perhaps eliminate a few. Otherwise, your edits didn't appear to me to skew the article significantly, and they definitely provided historical background which we didn't have, and which improves it.

Given the quality of your edits so far, I don't think there's any particular need for you to tip-toe through the article -- I think you can go ahead and contribute, with awareness that your affiliation may make other editors look twice at what you add. Thanks very much for improving the article, it is appreciated. Beyond My Ken (talk) 19:17, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I think we're in need of a photo of the Foundation's current building. Would it be possible for them to release one of their photos under a Creative Commons license and you could upload it to Wikimedia Commons? Beyond My Ken (talk) 19:17, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help! Yes, I think the Foundation can release a photo of its current headquarters, but it may take a day or two. I'll add it shortly. Russellsage (talk) 19:39, 30 June 2011 (UTC)Russellsage[reply]

Great! I've made some changes, almost all of them copyediting to conform to wikistyle. Let me know if there are any problems. Beyond My Ken (talk) 20:15, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Photo of Russell Sage Foundation[edit]

I have uploaded a photo of RSF's current headquarters on 112 E. 64th St in NYC. I'm afraid I do not know how or where to put this file in the Wikipedia page, as my formatting skills are not up to scratch. Can anyone help? This is the file:

Short edit of Russell Sage Foundation page[edit]

I changed the language from "in addition to the activities sponsored under our main programs," to "sponsored under the Foundation's main programs." The possessive noun may give the wrong impression that this was written by the Russell Sage Foundation itself. Thoughts?

I see nothing wrong with it. Beyond My Ken (talk) 01:31, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
