Merger of articles[edit]

There is a proposal to merge Legal advertising and Legal marketing. What do you think? Bearian 23:13, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it would be better to do ' vice versa' and to have Legal advertising merged into Legal marketing. Look at under the current Wikipedia definition for Marketing. It says :

Marketing is one of the most important functions in business. It is the discipline required to understand customers' needs and the benefits they seek. Academia does not have one commonly agreed upon definition. Even after a better part of a century the debate continues. In a nutshell it consists of the social and managerial processes by which products (goods or services) and value are exchanged in order to fulfill the needs and wants of individuals or groups. Although many people seem to think that "marketing" and "advertising" are synonymous, they are not. Advertising is simply one of the many processes that together constitute marketing .[1]](1 - ^ Adapted from Kotler, Armstrong, Brown Adam & Chandler, (1998)Marketing 4th edition, Pearson Education, Australia.)

The Wikipedia definition of Advertising is:

Advertising is paid, one-way communication through a medium in which the sponsor is identified and the message is controlled. Variations include publicity, public relations, product placement, sponsorship, underwriting, and sales promotion. Every major medium is used to deliver these messages, including: television, radio, movies, magazines, newspapers, the Internet, and billboards.

The main heading should be Legal marketing and Legal advertising should be a sub-heading.

Marketing can take many forms - such as seminars, conferences, writing articles and books, etc .. and advertising.... If this entry remains in its current state then it is creating a conflict in the definitions between advertising and marketing... that is making it seem as if advertising is ' marketing' - which of course it is not.
