A tag has been placed on Sambucol, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. BigDuncTalk 21:03, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Your Username
[edit]Hi, your username is a promotional username which is against Wikipedia's username policy. You may request a username change at Wikipedia:Changing username otherwise this account will be blocked.BigDuncTalk 21:04, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
This kind of activity is considered spamming and is forbidden by Wikipedia policies. In addition, the use of a username like yours violates our username policy.
You may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below or emailing the administrator who blocked you.
Your reason should include your response to this issue and a new username you wish to adopt that does not violate our username policy (specifically, understand that accounts are for individuals, not companies or groups, and that your username should reflect this). Usernames that have already been taken are listed here.--Orange Mike | Talk 21:11, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
unblock|This name is associated with a company and I apologize for not reading the username terms I just picked it because I am a fan of the product can I use johnw1982 instead}
Before we grant this, we would like to know if you're interested in editing anything else besides an article on this company, which may not necessarily be notable enough for inclusion here? Daniel Case (talk) 15:32, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Hi Daniel,
Sorry for not responding yesterday but I was out sick all day and am just getting the message. Yes I would be interested in editing other articles and I will probably have some more for creation. The one that I have now, is there any reason why that wouldn't be considered notable? They are a product that spans the globe and that a lot of people use. I also asked earlier what the difference between this entry and some other entries on known products are and never received a response if someone could let me know the answer so that I can make sure I don't make the same mistake again that would be great. {Johnw1982}
- Also, as to a small note, but an important one, please see our policy on signatures, written out at WP:SIG. You must at least have a link to either your userpage, or user talk page present in your sig.— Dædαlus Contribs 16:28, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
Sorry about that. I am still confused how to link like you said to but I was able to figure out to add my signature at the end thanks to the link you gave me.--Sambucol (talk) 18:55, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- I've unblocked you. To answer your question, the inclusion criteria for new articles on companies are described at WP:CORP. If the company meets that (most importantly, if you can prove that it meets that with reliable sources independent of the company), then an article is reasonable. I take it from your comments before that you aren't actually an employee of Sambucol.. but if you are, note that Wikipedia's rules about conflicts of interest prohibit you from creating an article on that topic. Mangojuicetalk 21:42, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
I am not an employee of the company, just someone who has used the product with success. All of the information I included was from the company web site as well as the package itself. What else do I need to do to get this article published? I can provide some newspapers which featured the product and Dr. Andrew Weil, who is a noted alternative medicine doctor also mentions sambucol in his book Natural Health, Natural Medicine. --Sambucol (talk) 22:13, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
Could someone please tell me why this article was deleted and other articles about brands and products I have seen were approved. If I could get direction as to how to fix the article that will help me in the future. --Sambucol (talk) 14:53, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
- It was deleted because it was an advertisement. You mention that you lifted the text from the company web site and packaging: this also makes the text you added a copyright violation. Both of these issues make the submission categorically unacceptable for Wikipedia.
- Also, articles are not compared to similar articles when being considered for deletion, but rather against inclusion guidelines like WP:CORP; it is always possible that other articles that are included were missed and should be deleted; if you find any that look suspicious let me know and I'll see what can be done.
- I did some of my own brief research into this topic, and it seems that Sambucol is mentioned rather frequently but there's not much information specifically about it. For instance, I tried to prune out hits that don't talk about Sambucol specifically: I couldn't find any secondary sources, for instance, saying that Sambucol is patented, which your article claimed. I did look in pubmed and confirmed some of the sources in the article draft... but again, those articles aren't about Sambucol, they're about the medical properties of black elderberry extract and refer to Sambucol because that is the specific product used in the trials. My suggestion is that some of that information could be added to the page Black elderberry, which doesn't have any info on this use. Sambucol can probably be mentioned there as an example or a primary example of the product, and the pubmed stuff can be discussed.
- Also, please note that you still need to change your username; please file your request at WP:CHU as soon as possible, or we may need to re-block you. Mangojuicetalk 18:38, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
HiMangoJuice, Thanks for taking the time to answer some of these questions that I had posted earlier. The reason Sambucol is not patented is because they just changed the distribution partners and they had to get through the purchase of the product before it could be changed. Natures Way is the old distributor of the product and now it is distributed by a company called Health Brands International. The product sold under HBI is the original extract used in the clinical trials. No other product on the market has that formula.
I understand that I will not be able to make a new article for Sambucol but in order to not get blocked, do you have any suggestions on how to add the information into the black elderberry article. I think it is important that people know the results of the clinical trials and that the name Sambucol is the only one with the specific extract. As a user of the product myself, I know there are a lot of imitation products out there so it is important to provide information that is the only one. Any help or advice you could provide would be greatly appreciated. --Sambucol (talk) 15:54, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
- I think that while it's laudable of you to want to help those seeking this product, Wikipedia is not the forum to make recommendations. I'd say if you are interested in getting the word out, look for active webforums elsewhere on the internet. From a practical standpoint, I am (1) unsure if there is any place on Wikipedia, including the Black Elderberry article, where stating claim would be appropriate, and (2) even if there were, that claim would have to be backed up (this is critical) by a reliable and reputable secondary source totally independent of the company. (Such as, perhaps, an independently published book of reviews of herbal supplements, as opposed to an advertisement, packaging, or catalog). The closest you could come would be adding information about the known/studied effects of Black Elderberry extract and citing medical studies; if I recall, they mentioned Sambucol by name.
