Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Sblinkhorn. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Steve Blinkhorn, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Tacyarg (talk) 23:59, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for contacting me. I realised on Wednesday when talking (at Whipsnade Zoo, of all places) to a stranger who asked my surname, immediately entered it into Google and got my Wikipedia page as first hit, but showing a picture that is absolutely not me, that entropy had degraded the information on it, which was always incomplete. I had nothing to do with the original creation of the page, which IIRC originally even had my birthday wrong. My aim in doing these edits is to try to make the page make sense as a narrative, and to place links to other pages as appropriate, as well as correcting errors and supplying missing information. I deliberately chose a login name which makes it plain who I am, and absolutely concur with the aims and spirit of Wikipedia. However the overhaul needed is extensive if it is properly to represent the objective impact of certain activities and publications whose salience has become lost over time. I would welcome constructive criticism, technical help and especially link creation to make this in all respects compliant with the purposes of the site. No-one has ever consulted me as my life and career were made increasingly a disjointed jumble of unrelated factoids.
Kind regards,

Thanks for your reply. Can you raise an edit request on the article's Talk page, setting out what should be changed and giving sources to verify any new information? This guide should help - follow the information for submitters. Post back here if you want more guidance, and I'll see your comment. Alternatively, the teahouse is a place to ask for help. Best wishes, Tacyarg (talk) 18:00, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
