Bot archived an unsigned RefDesk question within a wrong date[edit]

In these two edits

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Archives/Mathematics/2017_February_15&oldid=766773000

the bot moved an unsigned (and un-dated) note from a 'Feb 14' section to the 'Feb 15' archive. Strange, although it grabbed the Feb 14 comment, it did not archive or remove the 'Feb 14' section header.

It's not a big problem, actually not a problem at all – anyway I thought I tell you, just in case you'd like to know. --CiaPan (talk) 07:05, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wow -- you were really paying attention!
The bot doesn't actually look at date headers at all -- it considers (well, I consider) them untrustworthy, even though they're usually added by the same bot. The bot archives solely based on signatures, which poses a problem when there are unsigned questions. In that case, the bot ends up using the date of the first answer or, as here, the next question, which occasionally ends up being on the next day. (Also, since it doesn't trust them, the bot simply deletes date headers off of the main pages, and recreates them on the archive pages based on the "proper" date ranges it thinks it's intuited.) —Steve Summit (talk) 10:37, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Bot - minor issue - misplaced date header[edit]

WP:RD/MA Special:Diff/806007009

The =October 19= header has been added inside the =October 17= section, even though =October 18= existed below.

Fixed already. --CiaPan (talk) 07:37, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what happened there. It was probably due to the out-of-order sections.
Thanks for fixing. —Steve Summit (talk) 03:50, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Help Desk archives[edit]

Two problems: when a page is archived, the preceding page needs a purge to have a link to the new page. I was told the problem is not with the software but the need for a purge.

And the November page has not been created even though there is a November 1 archive page.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 21:46, 6 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently I should have clicked on the red link.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 21:48, 6 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The heading with links to other pages was missing on December 20.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 22:26, 25 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Vchimpanzee: Thanks for fixing. There was a real problem with the 20th, which I thought I'd taken care of, but evidently not all of it. Good thing you noticed. —Steve Summit (talk) 02:20, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
