Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

False information and accusations on my wikipedia page.[edit]

Today, I was informed by a colleague, that someone has been modifying the wiki page for my biography and has even insinuated that I have made this wiki page myself.

A while back, I was informed that someone had inserted a false statement that I had invested in my current company when I was employed at a different company. Given the legal implications of this, I logged into wikipedia under my own name and made changes to remove the comments and correct some of the other inaccuracies. I was not aware that this was against editorial policies of Wikipedia. I never embellished the biography which actually does not include any my awards or recognitions and only corrected errors. I was informed that this was against wikipedia policy and and never returned to do this.

However, it seems, the problem is ongoing and an individual or an organization is trying to damage my reputation and belittle my contributions. If you look at the history of the page, there has been some back and forth and someone has been trying to remove any reference to my most well-known invention known as "alamouti Code" from my biography. This code is now implemented in billions of wireless devices and the major reason for my fame in the wireless industry.

In the recent edit, it is said that Alamouti Code was jointly invented by Alamouti and Tarokh. This is not true. If the code was jointly invented, it would have been called something else and not definitely the Alamouti code. The reasoning for this edit is absurd: the person doing the edit has argued that since the code has been patented by At&t including two inventors, then the alamouti code must have been invented by both of them. However, the said patent includes the Alamouti Code and a couple of additional claims for Tarokh's contributions, In other words, the breadth of the patent is beyond my code. Also, the patent was paid for by AT&T Labs Research, a division where I was not employed.

It is very easy to verify this story. I invented the so-called Alamouti Code before I met Vahid Tarokh and published it in the following paper:

Please note that I'm the sole author on this paper and thousands of citations and text books refer to the code as the Alamouti Code because it is clear that I'm the sole inventor of this code.

Vahid Tarokh, whom I met months after and at the time worked for AT&T Labs Research, then visited me in Redmond Washington where I was working at At&t Wireless and started researching the structure of my code and called my code a Space-Time Block code and published a paper with two other authors, clearly giving me the proper credit for the invention. In fact, the authors referred to the code as: "alamouti scheme" in their paper.

I'm generally not bothered by these issues but this can have a serious impact on my reputation. The person who has edited this, is claiming that I have taken credit for someone else's invention, that I have got an agency to create and edit this page which could not be further from the truth.

I am writing this letter to solicit your help to make sure my biography is accurate. I will gladly provide verfiable references to make this article unbiased and factual. I don't find it appropriate to ask a third party to make these changes and I'm hereby asking the community and editors to help out.
