double redirects after moving an article
[edit]Hi - I noticed you've moved some articles and haven't fixed the resulting double redirects. What this does is make it so someone clicking on the redirect that points to a redirect sees the redirect rather than the article (weird but true). For example, Kammu_Emperor (if you follow the succession box at the bottom back one emperor and then forward you should see what I'm talking about). After moving an article, please check if you've created a double redirect by clicking "what links here" and fix it if you have. A double redirect is indicated in the output of "what links here" by a listing that includes a redirect anywhere other than the first level of links. For example, a partial list from what links to Kammu Emperor:
- Emperor of Japan
- Emperor Kammu of Japan (redirect page)
- (a bunch of articles)
- Emperor Kammu (redirect page)
The Emperor Kammu page is a redirect to Emperor Kammu of Japan which is now (since you moved it) a redirect to Kammu Emperor. The fix is to edit Emperor Kammu and make it redirect straight to Kammu Emperor (rather than to the other redirect).
Aside from this issue, are you sure all the moves you've been doing are appropriate? I would have expected some discussion of this on perhaps Wikipedia:Japanese Wikipedians' notice board. I'll add a note there in any case. -- Rick Block (talk) 01:59, August 25, 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you. I will try. Sjostrom 08:05, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
- Please see the note I just left on Wikipedia:Japanese Wikipedians' notice board and the full discussion (which has now largely petered out) at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles). The changes you are making to the redirects will all be changed again so I wouldn't bother. Thanks for the effort though. -Jefu 09:10, August 26, 2005 (UTC)
Sigh. Could you make up mind.
