Sukhneet Kaur Professor Vitak INST 201 21 February 2017 Article Critique The article I am critiquing is “Paperless Society”. The length of the article is only four sentences long. It was last edited on January 31st of 2017. It lists only one reference and 18 literature sources related to the topic. All the references are credible so the author did a good job on that part. Not only does the article define what a paperless society is but also includes a social effect of this topic. It includes one direct quote that is cited. There is one fact and it is referenced. Everything is related to the article topic. However, as mentioned before, the author does go a different path by including an effect of the topic. The article is biased against paperless societies. Since, it only consists of four sentences, it is not heavily biased as it could be but nonetheless is biased. There is not much information on the reference listed but judging from the book title, Toward Paperless Information Systems, the reference seems to be biased for the topic. The fact that was listed and referenced is in fact a straight up fact. The reference’s bias standing does not affect it. The viewpoints are definitely underrepresented. The author could add many more facts and statements supporting his stand on the topic. The reference listed is a book. The link of the reference directed me to a page that detailed where I could buy the book instead of linking me to the actual book. I would need to have access to the book to check if there is close paraphrasing or plagiarism. The referred source is about 40 years old. I would consider this information to be out of date. Since technology is more advanced than it was 40 years ago, it would be a good idea to include information that is more recent. Updated information will also lead to recent effects that the topic caused. A lot is missing that could be added in the article. Some of the stuff that could be added are: more information on paperless societies, examples related to the topic, and the effects of paperless societies on for example, people, businesses, the government, and the environment. There are many literature sources listed on the Wikipedia page that the author can take more information from and reference to. The page can easily be turned into an informative article with all the ideas mentioned.
