Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "SkepticalScience", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because Wikipedia doesn't allow usernames that imply shared use. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you.

On Wikipedia, one account is meant to be linked to one person. As there is a group of volunteers at SkS, this username implies it may be used by multiple people. FemkeMilene (talk) 18:53, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Femke! This is Baerbel from Skeptical Science. We set up the SkepticalScience-User solely for uploading graphics to Wikimedia Commons and don't intend to use it on Wikipedia to edit content. I just noticed that I left the last comment on your user page accidentally while logged in as SkS in another browser but have corrected that now. Hope that clarifies it. Cool! Commons does allow a shared account, with some conditions: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Username_policy. If you're planning on sharing more (yay!), it would be good to have your account verified. FemkeMilene (talk) 19:17, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the tip regarding verification on Wikimedia Commons which I triggered yesterday and which already was granted! We are planning to share more graphics, the problem is finding/making the time to actually do it! Baerbel for SkepticalScience (talk) 06:38, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username. It also appears that your account is intended to be used for the purpose of telling the world about an organization, person or cause that you consider worthwhile. Unfortunately, many good causes are not sufficiently notable for their own Wikipedia article, and all users are discouraged from editing in any area where they have an inherent conflict of interest. You may wish to consider one of these alternative outlets.
While user names that are the names of organizations are not permitted, you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Foundation", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87". Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you. Orange Mike | Talk 17:49, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As mentioned above in reply to Femke, we don't plan - or need - to use user SkepticalScience on Wikipedia. We only need the Wikimedia User in order to upload graphics to Commons. Possibly I created this Wikipedia user accidentally as I'm new to all of this and there's way too much to take in and understand. My own user is BaerbelW. Apart from one - accidental - entry on Femke's talk page, no other Wikipedia-entries should have been done with this Wikipedia-User. Oh, and not sure if any of this makes sense! Cheers - Baerbel for SkepticalScience (talk) 18:26, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
