Hi Steve
Welcome to wikipedia!
Thanks for your email. As there doesn't seem to be anything particularly private or personal in it, I'll "publish" it here. I hope you don't find that offensive - if you do, then please revert my edit.
- Hi, I'm trying to correct the Wiki entry for Fred Birks VC specifically his burial location which is not Zillebeck. Having visited his grave at Perth (China Wall) cemetery I know its not where Wiki says it is. Check him on CWGC and see. Everytime I amend it, it is reverted back on the last occasion by yourself. How do we correct this?
The reason it keeps being reverted, (as hinted by User:Ian Rose, who, by-the-way, is a very helpful person) is because you haven't supplied any supporting information to help independently verify your claim. To a new editor, this is probably somewhat obscure and needs further explanation. It's 0130 here, I'd like to go to bed. If you don't mind waiting about 18 hours, I'll respond with a more useful answer then.
But, in short, and in reply to your question: "How do we correct this?", the quick answer is: "We find some supporting evidence and quote that.

P.S. What is "CWGC"? Pdfpdf (talk) 14:55, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
- I've updated the article (see talk:Frederick Birks#Burial place, and linked to the casualty information from CWGC - th eprobem was you were changing information that was footnoted to what's usually a good source (every source has some sort of error - CWGC has plenty, whether made originally or in the transcription of paper records to online), and replacing it with something with no obvious source. As I'm sure you can appreciate, there's no easy way for us to tell if you really have been to the cemetery, and unfortunately there are plenty of people who going around deliberately vandalising articles, so it's very important that information is backed up by reliable sources.
