Managing a conflict of interest

Hello, SustainabilityExpert15. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam#External link spamming);
do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

HI, I completely understand the conflict of interest guidelines but I am not writing about a personal topic where there is ambiguity; my book is co-authored and it is a published book based on research. I am confused how I would be showing bias when it is not a personal book. People sell services for $1,000+ to do this for the author so is this why? Then it is not "discouraged"? Again, my citations in both the article and in the book are academic citations and have been scrutinized by the publisher, editor, and a focus group who read it. If anything this topic is better researched than some on Wikipedia. So my question is, what do I do about this other than pay someone $1,000 to submit my article? Authors are discouraged from citing their own work because it can become a form of spam. See WP:SPAM and specifically WP:BOOKSPAM. Also citing one's own work tends to skew emphasis away from a consensus of reliable sources to a specific point of view that may not reflect consensus. If you rely heavily on your own source, it just becomes an advertisement for that source. Simply publishing a book does not create that consensus of sources. As for paying somebody, see WP:PAID. For your own sake, please do not be tempted to do that, there are many con artists eager to guarantee results and take your money for no result. Thank you. Please don't misunderstand my intention, I actually didn't create this to promote my own work. We, my co-author and I, were talking about how we are changing the sustainability landscape and how that terminology does not exist in a dictionary of sorts for sustainability. Then we said it would be awesome for the term "Organizational Sustainability" to be in Wikipedia so I researched how to do that. I am not looking for advertisement, my reasoning is more about education for a broader audience and that is what I thought I was doing. SustainabilityExpert15 (talk) 14:36, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It would be better practice to cite the sources that you used for your book, using your knowledge of the subject. Also, you seem tp be trying to create a content fork to reflect a very narrow point of view, which is generally discouraged. Acroterion (talk) 14:36, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
