Information icon Hello, I'm Eevee01. I noticed that you recently removed content from Görlitz without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Görlitz

[edit]

Hi, why are you constantly deleting the section on Nazi rule and World War II? I don't agree that the section is too long as it was written very concisely and to the point. Information about Nazi camps and the Holocaust is standard information in the history of many cities during that period. Why ignore it in this particular article as if it didn't happen? That would be odd. Please reply, and have a nice day. Marcin 303 (talk) 08:23, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Taalmont: A few things:
  1. The other history subsections are collectively more extensive than the subsection on WWII, so your argument is inaccurate. Furthermore, the Nazi and WWII period was a bit more intense so it is understandable that it requires a few sentences. Not every period of several years should be described with the same number of sentences, words or letters, because not all such periods have enough notable info. This article describes this period relatively briefly anyway.
  2. The history section in the article is already more extensive than for many other towns from different parts of the world. Also, there are many articles mentioning some WWII history, but nothing or almost nothing else historywise. The already contained info is not removed, it is rather left to be expanded by the users. Wikipedia is a joint effort, after all.
  3. Photos are usually placed in the specific sections due to their connection with the topic. For example, in this article there is a photo of a railway station in the Transport section, there is a town hall in the Governance section, and a 16th-century view of the town in the Modern period section. The same applies to WWII. Wikipedia is not a tourist guide, so not all pictures are supposed to be notable sights.
  4. The argument about the POW camp is understandable, but its subcamps were located within present-day Görlitz, so info about those should remain.
  5. I did mention political opponents, you erased it.
  6. For clarity, you can reply here. No need to jump between talk pages.

I asked you to answer here for the sake of clarity, so as not to split the discussion between two talk pages. It is easier to read such a discussion, also to others. I would answer anyway, trust me. To make sure no point is missed, could you please answer point by point:

  1. I did mention political opponents in the Leschwitz concentration camp. Then, after your request for a shorter description, I have not restored such details, however I understand that you wish to have them restored.
  2. I've added some info on local Jews. Again, you erased it.
  3. I have no information on the persecution of homosexuals in this city. If you have such information with sources, feel free to add.
  4. The infos about Görlitz as you write them, make it appear like about 30 % prisoner camp infos - again, incorrect. Prior to your removals, there was a total of six sentences about Nazi camps, and after I shortened the description, there were four sentences about Nazi camps. Prior to your latest removal, there was a total of about 60 sentences in the History section, 4 out of 60 is far from 30%. Do you dispute this?
  5. As I pointed out earlier, information about Nazi camps and the Holocaust is standard information in the history of many cities during that period. You erase any mention, even despite references, and even after I shortened the description and agreed that the main POW camp can be ommitted, as it wasn't located within present-day Görlitz. Are you trying to omit any mentions of Nazi camps and crimes, as if there were none? That would be odd.
  6. Do you agree with the point I made earlier in my previous reply, i.e. Not every period of several years should be described with the same number of sentences, words or letters, because not all such periods have enough notable info. Please, respond.
  7. And do you agree with the point I made earlier about photos? Marcin 303 (talk) 10:15, 23 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
