Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to HMAS Bendigo (FCPB 211) may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Regarding verifiability and sourcing

[edit]

Hi! Thank you for the series of edits you've made to RAN ships recently. The bad news is that several of them may not meet Wikipedia's inclusion policy, because they appear to be based on personal recollections, or on non-published/non-public sources.

While I have no doubts that the information you have added is correct, the inclusion bar for Wikipedia is the higher target of WP:Verifiability. In a nutshell, the Verifiability policy requires that any information added be linked to "reliable, published sources", so that anybody could reasonably access the source of the information and check that what Wikipedia says is accurate. I would be surprised if command reports for active or recently retired warships is something the RAN would want to publicly publish somewhere so that Lil' Ol' Civilian Everybody could access them for verification purposes. Attributing information to Some Random Person I Just Met On The Internet, no matter how right I believe they are, is right out.

On the other hand, a good chunk of what you have added has been attributed to published sources like the RAN ship history pages, the Naval Historical Society of Australia, news articles, etc. This is fantastic, keep it up! Any help in identifying sources that could be used to back up the other claims would be great.

If you have any questions or want to discuss the issue, feel free to leave a message at User talk:Saberwyn, or on your own talk page here. -- saberwyn 05:47, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
