Citizens For A Better America

[edit]

03/18/2008

Hi I am Techant and after using Wikipedia for years I thought is was time to contribute.

I have looked over some pages where I know the subject and add or edited where I thought I could improve it. I am trying to move into doing more and thought it best to start with what I know and am interested in, so as the web designer for a political organization I thought it was a good place to start.

My first endeavor was not that successful as it was deleted before I could even edit it to comply with what I was asked. All I had done was save the page and look at it in another browser. I saw that there was a message saying it was set for “Speedy Delete” and then it was gone. I didn't even get a chance to put the message "hangon" that it recommended as I wanted it reconsidered, before it was gone. We are talking minutes not days. I think I finished at 03/17/08 23:58. Checked the other browser and saw the message at 03/18/08 00:00 2 minutes later. Then went back to put the “hangon” message and it was already deleted.

I am saying this not to vent my frustration (even though it is helping) but to let other know I feel your pain. The idea behind Wikipidia is that it is always improving, so I want to see that if possible we don't do this to more new users. Really you have to give them the time to post the message. Even the “Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion” page says speedy doesn't refer to the speed of the deletion but to the easy of deletion.

I don't know why this happened so fast nor do I completely understand why the page I created was marked for deletion. The message said in part:

"This page may meet Wikipedia’s criteria for speedy deletion. The reason given is: It is an article about a company, corporation, organization, or group that does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject. |CSD A7| Speedy concern: It is an article about a company, corporation, organization, or group that does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject. |CSD A7|..."

Now, I looked over some other pages like Moveon.org and PAW which are also organizations to see what I was doing wrong and I did see that they had a lot more content but that is to be expected moveon has been on Wikipedia since 2003 but that was the only real difference I could see In fact, their first entry was one short paragraph for which they only got a stub warning. Now maybe the rules have changed since then, I don't know.

In the end I could not see how they "indicated the importance or significance of the subject" any better then I had. Maybe it was that they listed the candidates they endorsed. I was planning to do that as well, but the page was gone before I could do it. Also I was planning to discuss the problem of election official not using the internet well. CFABA.org has done much to move election official into the internet era.

Don't worry I don't plan to give up I look forward to giving it another try and working out the bugs. But this leaves me wondering what really makes the MoveOn.org page not an organizational page and mine one. More later:

First, your note to me said you had this on you talk page. It was actually on your page so I moved most of it here.
As to why it was deleted. Simply put, it does not assert meeting, WP:ORG, WP:RS, WP:N, and WP:V. In addition, it clearly fails to meet WP:COI which, while not a speedy deletion reason, would be an issue for other requests for deletion. Vegaswikian (talk) 18:46, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

03/18/2003 15:51 Ok I see where you are going. Now, there are plenty of outside sources for this organization I just had not quoted them yet. What is the best way to do it. Do I write something here? Or, do I use my main page? Do I write it all up with all the outside sources and then submit it again or do I do something I don't know about yet? Please advise. Oh and thanks for moving my content, my mistake I was a little confused. I want to be excellent so I am open to correction, thanks again.
